Handmade Graduation Cards

Happy Grad by Stampin' Up!
I need a lot of handmade graduation cards, and soon! This is the first one I have come up with. It comes together very fast, and I may just use it for everyone but change out the green brad "buttons" to Basic Pearls for the girls.
Supplies Used:
- Digital Stamps: Happy Grad from My Digital Studio
- Cardstock: Basic Black, Garden Green, Whisper White
- Digital Inks: Garden Green
- Accessories: Silver brad, Garden Green brads, white grosgrain ribbon, Glue Dots, Stampin' Dimensionals, SNAIL, Crop-a-Dile, Modern Label Punch
- Other: Embroidery thread, computer paper, scissors
Of course, you would want to make your card using your school colors... our colors are green and white.
DirectionsThe card base is Basic Black. For the band along the top I cut two pieces of Garden Green cardstock at 1"x3". I laid them at an angle and overlapped them at the bottom where they meet to form the V. I adhered them with SNAIL along the bottom edges, and then using scissors I trimmed the top to be flush with the card base.
I then cut two Whisper White pieces at about 3"x3/4", adhered them to the top of the Garden Green pieces in the same way and trimmed them along the top of the card. I cut a scrap piece of Whisper White into a V shape and slid it between the card base and the Garden Green piece and glued it down.
Using the Crop-a-Dile, punch three holes in the V to add the Garden Green brads to make the "buttons." If you are using the Basic Pearls you don't need to make the holes, just affix the pearls.
Graduation CapTo make the cap I cut three pieces of Basic Black into 1-1/2" squares and glued them one on top of the other. I inserted a silver brad in the middle using the Crop-a-Dile to make the hole. The tassel I made out of the embroidery thread -- I need a little more practice with that! By the time I get 10 or 15 of these done I should be pretty good at it. :-)
DiplomaFor the "diploma" I used the computer paper and punched a piece out with the Modern Label punch. I rolled it up and tied it with the grosgrain ribbon.
GreetingI used the
Happy Grad digital stamps for
My Digital Studio to create the greeting.
I stamped the phrases stamp twice, one on top of the other, in Garden Green, and then brought the opacity down to 40%. I used a square punch resized to fit over the dashed line at the bottom of the stamp, and then color filled it with Whisper White to match the cardstock. I left enough room between each of the stamped phrases to insert the "Happy Graduation" phrase in the middle. Keeping proportions locked, I resized them to 1.5 inches wide, made sure everything lined up, then printed. Of course, when I make the bunch I will copy it many times over on the cardstock before printing.
Cut out the greeting and mount on Garden Green cardstock; adhere to the bottom left corner of card.
Attach the diploma with glue dots and the hat with Stampin' Dimensionals, and you are done.
Let me know what you think!
