Trifold Cards; Shutter Card

Trifold cards, also known as shutter cards, are one of the card folding techniques that looks more complicated than it really is. I love cards with special folds, and this is one of my favorites.

You will need a piece of cardstock for your base that measures 5 1/2" by 12". With the piece laying with the long side going from left to right, score at the 2", 4", 8", and 10" marks.

Now turn the cardstock so the short side is going left to right in front of you. Measuring in from the sides 1 1/2", make a cut with your paper cutter or a craft knife from the 2" score line to the 10" score line. Do this on both long sides.

Now it's just a matter of learning the special card folds. If you look at the picture, you can see that the top and bottom folds in the same directions, with the middle folding the opposite way.

Now, go ahead and decorate your card. Whoever you give it to will be delighted and won't believe you actually made it!

Here is a view of the card when closed.
